Sixth Form
Our Sixth Form is part of Havelock Academy Sixth Form which is spread over two sites, King Edward VI Academy, in Spilsby and Havelock Academy, in Grimsby. Both academies are proudly part of the David Ross Education Trust.
Our aim is to offer the very best education possible to our young people in order to prepare them for the next step in their lives, whether that is studying at university, apprenticeships, further training or the world of work. We know that Sixth Form is an important part of our student’s development, and we recognise that gradually taking responsibility for their own learning, whilst supported by those around them is the key to success. Our small but ever growing Sixth Form here at King Edward VI Academy is lively and offers a personalised, innovative, and stimulating post-16 experience. We offer a wide range of opportunities to gain qualifications and develop first class skills for employment and further study.
Students in year 12 and 13 are taught in small classes by teachers who are well qualified, enthusiastic about their subject area and deliver high quality lessons as proven by our excellent, year on year academic results. The dedication of our staff is reflected in the high numbers of our students continuing to their chosen universities or into apprenticeships.
Our students who continue from lower school benefit from learning in an environment with teachers that they are familiar with and who have supported them for several years. These relationships matter. However, we also ensure that those students who are joining from other schools are equally supported by our experienced tutor team and quickly become a valued part of the King Edward VI Academy community.
Our dedicated Sixth Form block, is an area that our students can truly call their own where they have the space and facilities to embrace their creativity, independence and the academic challenges of their 2-year courses. Sixth Form students are provided with a Chromebook for use in school or may use their own laptops if they prefer.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions either via the school office or by emailing me acarrington@kingedwardacademy.co.uk We look forward to welcoming you to our school.

Why Study Post 16
What you decide to study post-16 can have a major impact on what you do after you leave school.
We believe that the overwhelming majority of young people will benefit greatly from continuing their education in Sixth Form.
Identifying the right path for you is incredibly important. Whether or not you have an idea of the subjects you want to study, having the right information now will give you more options when the time comes to make up your mind.
As you progress through your studies, you are likely to focus on a narrower range of subjects for advanced level qualifications. Information about the courses that we have to offer is available in our prospectus.
In terms of qualifications for university, entry to university is determined mainly on the basis of performance in advanced level qualifications - but grades achieved in your GCSE's may be taken into account. Your grades will also be taken into account for further education and job opportunities. Further qualifications really do help you achieve your goals!
Careers advisors and Sixth Form teachers are available to help students consider all the options available to them.
The key advantages King Edward VI offers are a great range of courses with experienced teachers and tutors who will monitor progress, offer support and encourage students to do their best.
